YOU WROTE

Amarillo fans
I wanted to give an update on distribution locations in Amarillo. I gotta tell ya... the fans of the bands are fans of the Harder Beat, and their loyalty is amazing. Thank you for helping our local scene. You rock! My thanks to the staff for all you do.

Kudos to Kevin White
Wow. I just wanted to take a sec to say that Kevin’s story [Lamb of God, Feb. HB] was REMARKABLE!! A great read in deed. I hope Kevin has a great time tonight at the LOG show

Letters to Mark
Mark, We just read the article you wrote about us in the Harder Beat. Very kind words, my man. We really appreciate it. It was an unexpected surprise for sure. Have a good weekend, brother.

Response to Buried Under Covers
Mark, Ok so I just read your article and I must say... A+++ It was perfectly written! Seriously, you brought up so many points on the topic, I really hope bar owners are reading it too. I’m so excited that you mentioned Adair’s, because they are truly a good bar and VERY fair to their bands. Not only do they not charge a cover, but they pay their bands very well... and they always get on stage and encourage people to tip the band and pass a jar around. That damn place was so full you couldn’t walk to the bathroom.
I thought your story was great and, coming from someone who very much loves the music industry here in Dallas, I appreciate your sticking your neck out against cover charges, because they gotta go! (At least half of them do)

Replies to Mark’s Revengeance CD review
Mark, I have no ties to this band [Revengeance], so understand that what I say here has nothing to do with that... Your review made it obvious to the outside world that you have NO idea what you’re talking about. It only proves that you have no talent... you can become a critic.
Dave

Whats up, Linda. I know you were expecting this...hahaha
I just wanna say...that even though I disagree with almost every word Mark said in his [Revengeance CD] review, it’s the nature of the business. Its the first bad review its gotten and I didn’t expect him to like it anyway. He likes shitty new metal. But I wanted you to know I’m not pissed and I believe any press is good press. Now I know there are some pissed off people, so I hope he dont mind whats coming his way.. but he put his address on there.
They might be the hottest band in Dallas. They have revived a boring dying scene with some flash and enthusiasm. They are definately bringing back the 80’s sound proudly.... and people are happy about it and I hear nothing but appreciation for them from complete strangers. They usually out draw and give every band they play with a run for their money.
My most favorite comparison is when alot of people said they reminded them of early Pantera... Thats a compliment. As for Taylor. For everyone that says what Mark said, there is another saying hes the best new frontman in Dallas.....hes in 2 bands full time and 2 part time and the reason hes in those was for his vocals...
Anyway. I dont need to defend them. I know they are special and I havent seen anything like them in so long..... I cant even rememer (sic) the last time I felt something this special was going to happen. Thanks again Linda.
Jeff Dennis (vocalist Taylor’s dad)

Linda Notes: Mark only received one (1) letter complaining about his review, the one printed above. FYI: While Mark is no metalhead, he did manage a metal band for three-plus years, and put together an all-metal regional touring package (Havoc Tour) of 8 bands traveling throughout Texas. Eight people listened to the CD at our staff meeting. Only Mark would take it for review. (Linda)

FFTN calls it quits
Dear Linda, After 10 years as a band and three full-length albums, Fallen From The Nest is calling it quits. We’re all proud of how far we’ve come and what we’ve accomplished, but it’s time to look for other ways for each of us to “make it.”
I’ll soon be hitting the road with an artist on Bad Boy Entertainment (P. Diddy’s label). When I return — probably sometime in the summer — we’ll have a real “farewell show” at the Curtain Club with all the band members from the last two albums.
Brent Rambo (bass) is joining Boy Named Circus, a new project with Matt Moseman and Micah Creel from Edgewater.
Dickey (vocals/guitar/songwriter) is putting together a new rock band and is currently auditioning all members.
I think one of the first things that really set the ball rolling for FFTN was HB’s Jamfest 2000 [compilation CD] — our first REAL battle-of-the-bands victory, and our first REAL press (when you featured us on the cover). Our band’s goal at the time was to lead the charge in making the industry more alternative, so being the first alternative rock band ever to appear on the cover of your [then primarily] metal magazine gave us a level of faith in ourselves that we would never have found without you.
I cannot thank you enough for being behind us for so many years. Thanks also to Shane Epting and especially Jason Janik. Jason’s been writing our reviews and taking our pictures since the beginning.
There are obviously many things that contributed to FFTN being around for 10 years. Many people along the way came and went. But you stayed. We would not have made to where we did without Harder Beat magazine and you. We want you to know that we appreciate it.
We’ll all be around, and I’ll make sure you always know what we’re getting into! The only thing we know for sure is that we’ve been best friends for a decade, and that’s not going to change. Thank you for everything.
With all my heart, soul, and rhythm,
Munnch, FFTN
