Denton Indie — Celebrating the “end of an error,” since 1/20/09
It has been cold as Dick Cheney’s heart in Denton lately, but the clubs are nice and warm with lots of great sounds and stiff drinks. Celebrate whatever you want this month by heading over to Hailey’s and enjoy Swedish singer/songwriter, Lonely, Dear…. Everyone’s favorite band known for controversy, Matthew and the Arrogant Sea opens with Sunnybrook… Other acts of particular interest include Starlight Mints, which plays with Grassfight and Recorder… The fame of Dayton, Ohio, The Heartless Bastards, have a great show planned with Denton favs, The Record Hop and Will E. Lee.

Rubber Gloves has a drunken solution to the sobering Bush economy - big-ass beer and open mic nights. Go there and check out all of Denton’s undiscovered talent. If you have a fancy for some established Denton bands, you won’t want to miss Deep Snapper, Teenage Cool Kids and Uptown Bums. This is a benefit show, so you can feel good about your humanitarian efforts while you get tanked and rock out.

Fans of Austin’s female-fronted Cruiserweight should be stoked, since the band has a show slated this month… Are you in the mood for something on the blues side of life? Austin’s almost famous Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears make tracks up to Denton this month. This show is a great chance to check out Nouns Group and Boxcar Satan.

Good cover bands are sometimes hard to find, but you can discover some good ones at Dan’s Silverleaf. Steely Dan tribute band, Naked Lunch, takes the stage this month. And everyone’s favorite Tom Petty cover band, Petty Theft will remind you “they won’t back down.”

If it’s been a while since you rocked out to the sounds of Slobberbone, you have a chance to see ‘em… Trivia buffs take notice…. Dan’s Pub Quiz Apocalypse is the talk of the town. So, start studying for your GED and test your skills while you pamper a cold longneck... Local singer/songwriter, Claire Morales has been gracing the caffeinated crowd at Jupiter House with a voice that commands respect. Catch her playing there and around town.
