Loathing Loop 288 since 2006
This is the time of year your grandma refers to as “sultry.” It’s too hot to sit on the front porch, drink beer and scratch your dog Skeeter.

But, good news, amigos, there are some great shows this month with plenty of air conditioning. Over at Hailey’s, local favorites Oso Closo, Whiskey Folk Ramblers and Rhondo plan on having more fun than a drunken water balloon fight at a swingers’ club. Be sure to get there early, as this is a reunion show for Rhondo. Other shows of interest at Hailey’s include The Republic Tigers, My Education, Zanzibar Snails, Brothers & Sisters and Faceless Werewolves. If you missed indie ass-kickers The Demigs last time, you’ll get another chance to see them this month.

The summer solstice is long gone. The pagan-hippie community has recovered from intoxicating drum-circles, magic mushroom consumption and belly dancing. And that means one thing: head to Rubber Gloves to catch the androgynously fabulous sounds of Gravy Train. This Los Angeles based four-piece comes correctly with a mix of old-school-trashy-disco, new wave and rap. They have more theatrics than a cross-dressing Jim Rose Circus. Leave your Astroglide at home — after all, Texas is Jesus country... Be sure to check out local badasses Broadcast Sea. You can be the first on your block to claim to have seen them before they were famous. They share the stage with Exit The King, Cleric and Pools.

Pinebox Serenade and Susan Gibson celebrate their CD releases this month over at Dan’s Silver Leaf. Get there early, and pick up a CD and an ice-cold longneck.

Want some free and awesome music? Download Grassfight’s new EP on their website. And see them live over at Andy’s this month. Rock indeed.
