Yahoo! Rockstar survives
Because of the many local bands and fans coming to help out, Fort Worth’s Rockstar is alive and well. Once word got out (via the club’s Myspace) that they owed $24,000 in taxes to the TABC; music fans came together. Bands donated their time and talent; people made donations; there were auctions. We’ve always noted that bands (especially metal bands) have immediately jumped in to raise money for various benefits. Club owner, Warren is most appreciative and says thanks to everyone.

Other clubs
Hot Rods & Hoggs wasn’t as lucky. They’re closed. And the Rock House Live still has notes on the door stating they are “temporarily” closed and looking for an investor).
Ah yes... The Fan

As of Monday, December 8, well-known radio celebrity Russ Martin was also “closed,” as in - without a job. He was ousted from 105.3. Russ wasn’t the only one. The station, as we knew it, is no more. It now has a sports format and is known as “The Fan.”

Band news
Dark Alliance is back. The lineup includes original vocalist/guitarist Steve Curtis, Todd Hezeaux (bass) and Brad McMurtry (drums)... Speeddealer is also back... Proven Ground is also back on the scene after a two-year hiatus.... Burying The Trend’s CD, The Roots From Within, is now available at shows.

Kevin and Melanie Goocher are moving to Los Angeles to help promote their daughter Devon’s career in singing. We wish them well. Kevin says they’ll be back to Dallas, and his band Phantom-X will continue.

Local Dallas metal band Subversion has changed their name to Destriers Gait and has added Greg Webster (former vocalist of For Deceit, For Despair.)

At a recent Krave show at Firewater, one of the band’s portable lighting rigs fell on their drummer. He didn’t miss a beat. No one was hurt, and the kit was also fine. Krave is Christopher’s (from Destroyer) other band.

After five years, Zenabi has disbanded. Al Mead reports that former members have formed a new tribute band to Motorhead called Orgasmatron. [Say that five times fast!]

Watch for them beginning in January.

Sing “Happy Birthday” to HB writer, Kevin White, on January 18.

Holiday wishes from HB
Thanks to everyone for their support this year, and have a great holiday season! (Linda)

Vinnie Paul Book Signing - Best Buy, Dallas, 11/20/08
If you live in Texas, “Dime” means more than a shiny, silver coin. Just in time for Christmas, there’s now a book about “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, former lead guitarist of Pantera who passed away after being shot by a crazed fan. The book, He Came To Rock, hits store shelves at Best Buy, Hot Topic and Border’s on November 18.

The Dallas’ Best Buy at LBJ/Midway Road had droves of fans waiting hours to catch glimpse of Vinnie Paul Abbott (Pantera drummer/Dime’s brother) and their father, as they signed books and memorabilia. Local personalities - 97.1 The Eagle’s Cindy Skull, KNON’s Thrashin’ Alan and Slammin’ J, and Ride For Dime President Rob Eichelberger - were there to lend support.

The book is a collection of photos and stories from Dime’s friends and family. There’s also a Dimevision DVD, which includes never-before-seen footage. Pick up a copy or order directly from BigVinRecords.com. (Marissa Bruce)
