Trees set to reopen in Aug.
We have to hand it to Clint Barlow. He accomplished what several others tried and were unable to do. That’s to get favorite venue, Trees, open again! The Dallas City Council approved the SUP request on June 10. Remodeling is underway, a new sound system is being put in place and Clint is booking bands - with an opening night set for Friday, Aug. 14.

Parking seems to have been an issue with the City Council in the past. And, at that time, there was no Dart rail to the area (the closest many blocks away… with service ending before midnight). The exciting news (which Clint told me in a telephone conversation) is that not only is Dart Rail service to Deep Ellum beginning in September… but that it will run until 2:30 AM. That’s HUGE!
The beloved venue closed in December 2005. Clint, his wife Whitney and a partner are putting their lives into bringing Trees back. Let’s all support them!

New, improved Rob’s
Rob’s Billiards and Sports Bar (in Euless) is upgrading to a full, in-house P.A. Jerry Flores of U.S. Black Tooth Management and X’s Red) has been handling the project. Jerry reports that the club is also accepting press kits from bands interested in booking shows there. (See Rob’s ad on p. 16 for information).

Tribute weekend
Skillman Street Pub is having a two-day Tribute Band Weekend on July 17-18. M.J. Roxx has organized it. Should be a lot of fun. (See their ad on p. 7 for more details).

Ridglea celebrates Texas metal
Head to the Ridglea Theater on Sun., July 5 to celebrate Texas Metal Independance. Door is just $5.. but any band members who have played the Ridglea get in free.

Lonestar Benefit
The benefit organized by Pino Garcia for the family of his nephew Leonard “Junior” Richardson, raised over $1,000. Leonard was shot in a Dairy Queen parking lot in Carrollton on Memorial Day. Pino is in local bands Iron Bone, Hailstone and Superfly Monkey). Bands donating their time and talents for the benefit were Zenabi, Kevin’s Head, Out of the Cellar, Bleed Down and Life After.

ABSU cancels Ft. Worth Appearance
International act with local band members ABSU was forced to cancel their June 29 show at Lola’s, after their tour bus broke down outside Baton Rouge, LA. It was to be the final show on their tour. [And hey, we never did get a copy of that CD.]

Puncture’s DVD is now available... Local band Overscene - who was on tour last year with Sevendust, Saliva and Buck Cherry - is heading to Memphis this month to play at Paul Crosby’s, (Saliva drummer)) wedding. Overscene will also be touring this summer with Parabelle (featuring Kevin Matisyn formerly of Evans Blue). Then they’ll be recording again in Florida.
