FEBRUARY '08
Harder Beat Magazine Online

February is a great month for live music in Denton. Despite the chill of winter, things are heating up all over town. Don’t miss fantastic bands like Oso Closo, Bangs, Liars, Leslie and the Ly’s, The Fieros and Dallas’ Black Tie Dynasty at Hailey’s this month. Mark your calendar… At Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio, Sparta’s Jim Ward will perform solo on Valentines Day… Stop The Violence, a benefit show at RGRS, hosts local greats Deep Snapper and The Demigs on February 7.

If you enjoyed Denton Deluxe Vol. I & II, check out Vol. 3 & 4 available at independent CD and video shop, Strawberry Fields. They’re hosting a lot more shows there, both regional and local acts. Check out Eaton Lake Tonics on February 21 and Jetscreamer on March 8.

The Boiler Room
Downtown Denton is seeing more action than drunken jumping bullfrogs at Mardi Gras. In addition to the kick-ass venues that already exist, the new kid on the block, The Boiler Room, is open for business. At 101 West Hickory, the old “Texas Jive” crew is back in business. If you get the chance, see local bands Congratulations and Two Month Reunion, who’ll be playing there later this month. In addition to hosting kick-ass bands on the weekends, they have Texas Hold ‘em and sports on the 15-foot big screen, karaoke, hip-hop and special events such as Goth and Industrial dance nights. Inside The Boiler Room is The Abbey Inn, a British pub on the second floor that serves up tasty bar grub and traditional English delights. And both places are totally non-smoking! Rock indeed (unless you smoke).
