I arrived in Houston Friday afternoon for Houston native, Booker T.’s Legends of Wrestling FanFest. Past and present stars signed autographs and posed for photos with all proceeds going to the Booker T. Fights For Kids Foundation. Sting, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, Team 3D, Diamond Dallas Page, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Stan Hansen, Samoa Joe, The Beautiful People, Christy Hemme and others helped raise over $60,000! Ring of Honor, a Philadelphia-based independent promotion held two shows - a DVD taping that night and a Pay Per View the following afternoon. RoH was featured prominently in the movie The Wrestler and features a more athletic-based style than WWE. RoH showcases the best young talent from the U.S., Japan and Mexico. Following one of the most exciting shows I’ve EVER seen, fans were invited to a local bar for a big meet and greet. Saturday got off to an early start as I attended an 8 AM, WWE Axxess event. Axxess is WWE’s FanFest, complete with live matches, autograph signings, Diva photos, Q&A’s, call a match, make an entrance video, The Undertaker’s Graveyard, Hell In A Cell, memorabilia, merchandise and much more. From there I saw the phenomenal RoH PPV and attended WWE’s amazing Hall Of Fame ceremony. That was By Far the highlight of the weekend - watching the legendary “Nature Boy” Ric Flair induct fellow legend, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Sunday there were two more Axxess sessions before Texas natives, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker stole the show at WWE’s biggest event of the year. Wrestling’s past, present and future all came together in Houston, and I was lucky enough to be part of it! |
