Roger Waters

It’s always cool when you get to meet your favorite band, before or after their show at a local club or a small venue. But there are some artists that are SO big, they only play the huge arenas and stadiums where it’s much harder and, in some cases, nearly impossible to meet them. Pink Floyd is easily one of the greatest bands of all time. They’ve sold millions of albums and sold out some of the largest venues all over the world. Their signature album, The Dark Side of the Moon, STILL holds the world record for the longest stay on the Billboard Top 100 charts. So when founder/songwriter/vocalist/bassist — and the real genius behind Pink Floyd’s music — Roger Waters, came to the Superpages.com Center, I wasn’t counting on getting any autographs. As usual, I arrived at the venue early in the day and waited by the back gate with my CD booklets, just in case.

That’s when the most amazing thing happened. Waters’ ride pulled up to the gate but, instead of going inside, they stopped in front of it. Waters rolled down his window and began signing one item per person for the small group of excited fans waiting there. He signed everyone’s CD booklets, album covers, photos, tickets, t-shirts, hats and anything else they handed to him. He even took time to shake hands and look up for a quick cell-phone photo.

It’s nice to see that an artist on his level — arguably one of the biggest stars in rock history, a true icon — still cares enough to give something back to his fans, even after all these years. Every artist should treat his fans as well as Roger Waters. What a total class act.
