Queensrÿche

Queensrÿche’s Geoff Tate

If you’re a Queensrÿche fan and you’ve ever thought about joining their fan club, you really should. Besides getting the opportunity to purchase the best seats for their live shows and other assorted free goodies, you also get to be a part of their after show meet and greets. Yes, you get your very own backstage pass!

Now for those who’ve never been backstage after a show, it’s really not as glamorous as you may think. After security checks you for proper credentials, they’ll lead you to a small room backstage where you’ll wait for the next 15 - 30 minutes. You’ll likely be surrounded by friends and relatives of the band, radio contest winners, record label and industry people, members of the media (like me!) and of course, groupies. In other words, very few real fans.

If you’re lucky, a few of the band members will come in, and you’ll get to meet them. That’s not always the case. I’ve actually been to “meet and greets” where NO one from the band showed up. Sometimes it’s no pictures or no autographs or only one thing signed. Sometimes the band just sits behind a table while you’re rushed through a line and all you get to do is say “Hi” as you shake one hand before moving to the next.

None of that happens at a Queensrÿche meet and greet. Most of the people with passes are fan club members. Despite having a much larger crowd than most meet and greets, the whole band usually shows up and there’s no restrictions on photos or autographs. Each member takes time to chat and actually get to know the band’s fans. There’s no sitting behind tables, as the musicians like to walk around the room and mingle.

If joining a fan club still isn’t for you, don’t worry; Queensrÿche is always good about signing for fans waiting outside by the busses as well. All bands should treat their fans as well as Queensrÿche does.
