Despite the severe lack of music festivals this month, Denton still lives up to its title of “Independent Music Capital of Texas.” There are more ass spanking, good shows here than there are in Amsterdam’s red-light district.
Over at Haileys
Don’t miss the highly creative and unconventional style of Beach House on the eighth. Then there’s the tripped-out indie pop band, Islands (featuring ex-Unicorns members, Nicholas Thornburn and Jamie Thompson) on March 12. They plan on kicking some shit, nicely.
If you dig Japanese psychedelic rock, you’ll want to drop by for a cold one and check out Acid Mothers Temple on March 18. Release your inner-dirty-hippie with Fort Worth favorites, Spoonfed Tribe, who plan to get at least four different kinds of freaky on stage with locals Trebuchet on March 21.
Rubber Gloves
Down the road apiece at Rubber Gloves (the venue voted “best place to pretend you’re a Teamster” two years running) will open many cans of whoop ass this month. Some of the best include awesome bands such as Mom, Shiny Around The Edges, Dust Congress and Malise on March 29. Ireland’s top touring act, God Is An Astronaut, takes the stage hostage on Friday the 14th. If you’re searching for something uber-freaky, check out the Japanese punk rock band from New York, Peelander-Z. These disturbed cats take the stage adorning pseudo-power ranger costumes on March 19. The following evening, Washington’s Scream Club, described as “queer-electro-hip-hop-punk-rock-glam-something-something” plan on amazing the crowdbring the kids!
Other
Feeling experimental? Head over to House of Tinnitus for Justice Yeldham and the Dynamic Ribbon Device on March 10. It’s sure to be an interesting show.
If you haven’t checked out Denton’s new kid on the block, The Boiler Room, stop by and see the funk-a-tronic sounds of Congratulations on March 7… Denton Deluxe III and IV, a kick-ass compilation, is out at Strawberry Fields and they have awesome shows with Jet Screamer playing on March 8.
Rock indeed.
