What’s going on in Denton this month?

At Hailey’s
The folks over at Hailey’s will kick out more jams this month than the number of drunken hooligans kicked out of soccer games in Ireland. Nouns Group takes the stage on May 9 with The Carrots, Daniel Francis Doyle and Fight Bite. Danish greats, Efterklang, are there with Slaraffenland and locals, Mom on the 19th
On May 24, Ladyhawk and Neva Dinova will rock you properly. Make sure you feel the funk with Denton’s best neo-soul group, The Logic, on May 30.

Rubber Gloves
Down the road and across the tracks, Rubber Gloves has an impressive list for May, too. Sarah Jaffe, Emil Rapstine, Glen Farris and Jen Seman will partake in Gutterth Live: Episode XXII on May 10. If you haven’t seen locals Oso Closo lately, you’ll have a chance to see them on the 17th with Congress of a Crow, Paper Cities and The Brewers.
The pride of Hot Springs, AR, Attractive and Popular, will make you dance, old school, on May 19. Oh, yes, they will. On June 14, RGRS hosts, Cats and Dogs: a benefit for the Denton Humane Society. This righteous event features the spectacular sounds of great bands such as Record Hop, Bridges & Blinking Lights, Brent Best, Handbrake and History At Our Disposal. One question: don’t guinea pigs get any love?

Denton Arts and Jazz Fest
It was another successful year for Denton’s most celebrated festival. If you missed this one - or, if just can’t remember what you did-you’ll get another chance to make an ass of your self next year. If you have never been to the jazz fest-you’re missing some good times, amigo. This festival highlights the spirit of Denton - it’s free, it’s a party, you can come as you are and go as you wish. In the end, tons of music was played, people danced, fried foods were served, many high-fives were exchanged, beer and wine were drunk and so were “tens” of people. Rock indeed, Dentonites, rock indeed.
